How do I show only used levels in the Select By Attributes dialog box?  In the image on the left all the levels are being displayed and in the image on the right only the levels that have elements are being displayed and I'm trying to figure out how this was accomplished.

Hi,

can someone please tell me why my named boundaries are not working as expected?  my drawing Sheet seed looks fine but when I place sheet boundaries in Default model the resultant sheet models are incorrect, as per these screenshots:

Working with 3sm in ORD

HI everyone.

First at all, I have to say I´m new with this ORD.

Now. I´m dealing with a big 3sm comming from a Drone flight procesed on Context Capture.
What I want to do is to use this 3sm as a existing terrain model to process mi corridors in ORD. But I´m not sure if it is possible.

My question is. Is posible to use a 3sm as a terrain. Or I have to convert it to Dtm or TIN.
Then which way do you think will be the best to convert a 3sm to terrain. Because I thought "terrain from elements" tool will work but it doesnt.

And my last question.
Does any of you have a workflow or maybe a link to a learning path which could help me to undestand how to work with a 3sm file.

Any comment will be hihgly appreciate.
Thanks.

ORD - Cleaning up contours on terrain

Hi,

I have a terrain model that is showing some contours where I don't think there should be any. Something lije this:

(In the center of the image it should be a flat terrain at the same height but the lowest contour is drawing lines "inside", all at the same height.

Here the same problem only with the major contours on:

How can I avoid this?

Thank you.

ORD SUDA - Extract Graphics - Design Stages not used

Using the Extract Graphics command in SUDA, the corridor feature definitions are not being used. See image below and note the following problems:

  • The proper terminology is now "corridor feature definition" not "design stage". The dialog box label needs to be corrected.
  • There are 5 corridor feature definitions available in the workspace, yet none are listed in the Extract Graphics dialog drop down.

ORD - Civil Accudraw Makes Incorrect, Confusing and Dangerous Assumptions

See video attached.  The goal for the geometric construction is to draw a new line which is perpendicular from the alignment running SE but ending at a certain station and offset on the line running NE. Note what is happening:

  1. At first, there is nothing being tracked by Civil Accudraw, as expected.
  2. After I set the first point using perpendicular snap, suddenly CA starts tracking along the line from which I snapped. What sort of logic suggests that this should be assumed?  I suppose that if you ONLY use CA t construct road center lines then such an assumption could be useful.  However, geometry is used for EVERYTHING, not just center lines. And, given the increasing complexity of of constraints of modern roadway projects such an assumption is not useful.
    1. What happens: The designer wastes about 10 minutes trying to figure out what has just happened and from whence did CA start getting numbers?
    2. Recommended: Don't assume. Civil Accudraw should be explicitly driven by the designer. In many cases, the design needs to develop the end point from some other alignment. In this example, (which is a schematic of a real project layout) the desire is to define end point based on the NE alignment, which begins at station 200+00.
    3. How many other ways is CA making assumptions? Just don't, please.
  3. Also notice: The alignment from whence I snapped starts at station 10+00. But the values reflected in the CA dialog assume 0+00
    1. This is completely wrong of course and contributes further to the confusion.

So, why do I say this is dangerous? The likelihood of inputting erroneous data is magnified because the designer is unaware that CA is driving things behind the scenes.

Someone out there is going to say: Don't worry about it, if you set the proper alignment before doing the perp snap then all is well. True enough, and maybe everyone in your organization will always do such and will never call you for support.

Civil Accudraw - Set Origin Shortcut Broken

OK, so this has been broken for ages and ages. You are using civil accudraw in station-offset mode and need to set the alignment to track stations.

  1. Click O shortcut and it works the first time.
  2. Later I need to change to another alignment, click O and nothing happens except I get an O in the CA input field.
  3. OK, seen this before, I'll use the button on the shortcuts toolbar. Now that button is broken as well.  It does nothing.

ORD SUDA - Extract Graphics - does not properly utilize alignments from reference

$

When source alignment for a utility line is in a reference, the utility lines created from the alignment do not function properly, apparently because the proper rules have not been developed on the utility.

  1. Alignment is in reference
  2. Use extract graphics command in SUDA to develop a utility line, in this case a water line.
  3. All seems well, until you turn off the reference file and notice there is a duplicate line under the water line.  This seems to be a copy of the original alignment and should not be here. Notice the thin white line under the 8" water line.
  4. One might be tempted to think that the water line is ruled to this duplicate line, but it is not.  The duplicate line is completely independent. It is plain ordinary smart line with no relationship to either the water line nor the original alignment.
  5. Now switch to the file with the alignment. Make a change to the alignment and return to the file with the waterline. Expectation is that the water line will have updated to match the revised alignment.  It has not. The water line was created completely divorced from the original alignment.  And as noted above, even the duplication of the alignment has no relationship to the water line.

The utility line needs to have a relationship to the alignment in such a way that edits to the alignment are reflected in revised  path of the utility.

ORD SUDA - Extract Graphics - control symbology of generic nodes

When using the extract graphics command, for things such as water lines, the generic nodes (those which are built in to software and look like end caps, tees and such) are being placed on default level, color white, etc.

In SS4, these things were placed on the same symbology as the associated utility line.  Is this a bug, or is there an alternate way of controlling these now?

Is it possible to drop, convert or lock annotation texte (favorite or cell) once they are generated from the geometry feature definition

We are working with OpenRoads Designer 10.07.01.32 and producing plan and plan and profile sheet model with named boundary. I defined feature definition for the alignment and the ditches. When the profile is created ditches are annotated at each PI with sta and elevation according to road horizontal alignment Z value.

the thing is now, we want to manually move these annotations. Is there a way to lock/freeze so that it wont update if there is some modification.

Thanks

Calculate parcel overlap area

I have areas where my cut/fill limits overlap the parcel lines and was wondering if there is a way to automatically create a shape for that overlap so an area value can be found. Are there any resources for how parcel impact data can be represented in an ORD model?

Thanks for the help.

More efficient way to watch tutorials from the Learn server?

Hi, Does anyone know a more efficient way to watch tutorials from the Openroads Learn server (LEARNserver) ? I.e. Cueing media instead of navigating back and forth between comtent.
The systems seems to need to preload the media list everytime you want to select the next tutorial. Currently I'm spending more time navigating than watching content (Content is very good).

ORD 2019 R1 - Item Type Import / Export - All models

$

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to make the Import / Export Tool to work on all models in an active dgn?

Say, I have a cell with some text elements that contain fields linked with Item Types. Say, I want to place this cell to several models e.g. all sheet models. With such setup I have run into the following problems:

1. In order to export the the data associated with the cells to excel I can use the Import / Export Tool > Instances. However, using Selection Type: "All"  - to select cells in all models - only elements contained in the current model are included. I have found that using advanced search in ORD Explorer can work by searching for the particular cell in entire file. Unfortunately in some files the advanced search freezes the software. Is there other way to make sure the selection works across all models?

2. Say I manage to get the exported excel file with all instances of cells (from all models). I can make changes to values of Item Types which is nice. Then, when using Import option using the excel file only elements in current model get updated. In order to update elements in other/remaining models I have to repeat the import separately for each active model. Is there a way to make the import function to work on all models?

Or am I missing something obvious?

Mariusz

Removing gpk associated with alignment

$

Hello,

Is it possible to remove the Auto Export association between the job gpk and an existing alignment? I am having trouble getting the alignment stationing in OpenRoads to match the alignment stationing in COGO from the gpk, but if I redraw the alignment with Auto Export and Auto Annotate set to False, they match. Therefore, I am looking for a way to remove the Auto Export association in my existing alignments to avoid redrawing them. Is this possible and if so, how?

Thank you,

Mona Lotfi

Power Geopak SS4 - Import Geometry Profile Selection Issue

$

When importing gpks into Power Geopak SS4, every single profile in the gpk is a child of each individual horizontal. Is there a way to only show profiles associated with a particular horizontal? The gpk i'm currently importing contains 40+ horizontals and about 150+ profiles, so essentially i'm forced to expand the list of 150+ profiles under each horizontal and then find and select the two or three that are actually applicable. This is a painstaking process and introduces room for error since in some cases it's not immediately clear which profiles are related to a given horizontal. Any help is much appreciated
