Inroads/Geometry/View Geometry/Station Offset Annotation

Using V8i. Inroads/Geometry/View Geometry/Station Offset Annotation

I am having trouble getting Inroads to give me Station and Offset Interactively on graphic points that are not on the CENTERLINE of the alignment.  Every point I click on that is offset from the alignment, Inroads jumps to the nearest cardinal point on the centerline.
