REFERENCE ORIENTATION

Hello,

We are using Microstation V8i SS3 and Power InRoads V8i SS3.

We have imported pipe data from an excel text file.  The data originated from a dwg drainage model our client supplied.  The pertinent data such as northing-eastings is held to four decimal places and is accurate in the text file.  The pipes and structures appear to import properly and we have the coordinates set from Tools->Geographic->select Geographic Coordinate System, which matches the original dwg data file.  We have referenced this original dwg data file with these same pipes and structures, and noticed that there appears to be a shift in the alignment of the structures and pipes.  In reviewing our reference dialog, selecting orientation, and change to standard view-top from coincident-aligned with master file, the structures and pipes aligns properly with our referenced dwg drainage model (see attached image).  However, if we continue to toggle back to coincident and then back to top, the reference continues to shift out of alignment.  We have reviewed the help file explanation, but not sure what "orientation" we should be using.  We also get different results if we reference our original dwg data file or a converted dgn equivalent.

Does anyone have a suggestion on the expected reference "orientation" setting we should use, and why we are getting the above described performance when changing the reference orientation?
