This answer is for InRoads based Civil software. But I think GEOPAK also allows the workflow, its been to long since I have used or had access to it.
In the Plan and Profile generator, as long as you are placing only single plan views or plan over profile - not in a grid, the software will bring the sheet to the model.
If you use a reference file as a border, the lower left corner of the sheet must be at coordinate 0,0 and the global origin must not be shifted from the center of the design plane. The sheet model properties dialog box, which allows you to associate a sheet border reference to a sheet layout also requires this. So if you are already using that feature, the plan and profile generator will work.. As will the Cross section sheet layout.
