Since the acquisition of MX by Bentley in 2003, MX has been maintained and enhanced along with the other civil products in the Bentley portfolio. A quick read of the various version release notes reinforces this continued commitment to the user base, with many additions that have extended MX capability, from enhanced linemode support for reference files and variables in macros, through to dynamic analysis options and enhanced drainage functionality, the list is broad.
In parallel, we've also been working on a common technology we call OpenRoads. This OpenRoads technology is available in all Bentley Civil products (MX, InRoads, and GEOPAK) today, and is the first stage in technology consolidation that will continue with future releases. OpenRoads, as delivered in V8i (SELECTseries 3), provides a common set of design tools that while new and innovative, also draws on the strengths and pedigree of the functionality it will ultimately replace, future releases of the civil products will provide additional common tools (for example, drawing production). Some may refer to this as “phasing out” MX, but we view it as an evolution of MX (and InRoads and GEOPAK).
