I have various questions/ grievances about the implementation of corridor modeler into Geopak from Inroads.
Many DOT's seem to be wanting 3D models created for projects using the corridor modeler in Geopak. There are a handful of very frustrating issues with the implementation of this software that I have noticed. They were not as much of a nuisance when working on smaller projects, but running a large project with Geopak "Corridor Modeler" is a trying endeavor.
1. Why were no DTM modification/viewing tools put into geopak with roadway designer? The only way to view DTM components is to have them displayed while creating a new surface. Also an inroads type dialog listing the contents of a DTM is nowhere to be found.
2. The Create surface dialog as a whole is buggy and inconsistent. I have a very hard time creating surfaces with the roadway designer. If I add them to a DTM in small steps (using append or modify), the tin files become invalid. If I try and process too much, the session crashes. This has left me with no known way to create a single DTM and TIN model for a large project.
3. Why can a surface not be updated while stored on projectwise? The session crashes if you attempt to reuse a surface name on projectwise.
4. Drawing XS's from a DTM is hit or miss. Sometimes it works, other times it does not. I have had some success with deleting resource files and UPF file, but that solution does not always work.
Generally my session crashes several times a day for various reasons. It is a significant disturbance to workflow. I would simply use Inroads, but clients are specifically calling for geopak, with corridor modeler used for XS's and final surfaces.
