The workshops from last year's BE were run on a beta version of software. After the conference, we had a object model change, which rendered files from previous beta versions unusable. However, during the beta program last fall, we recreated the datasets for all five workshops and that was distributed during the beta period. It was also posted for BE Communities. for further information on how to download them. The manuals you have are still valid, although a few minor errors noted during the conference may have been repaired.
Keep in mind last year's workshops did not use the Civil workspace (it hadn't been created yet) but there are directions in the appendix on setting the correct paths, etc.
