ø instead of ° while inversing in COGO

In the last couple of weeks I have noticed that when I inverse between two points, I get this symbol ø instead of this symbol ° when I inverse.  I had always gotten the degree symbol before.  Can anyone advise me how to fix this.  This is my first post and I'm very much a novice at Geopak.  I've checked my MicroStation Workspace Preferences Degree Display Char value and my MicroStation Workspace Preferences Look n Feel settings and they all seem to be in order.  The degree symbol can be placed in dgn, but only within the COGO dialog box.  I'm running SELECTseries 2, Microstation V8i and Geopak V8i.
