Understanding Roadway visibility

I am using Roadway visibility in InRoads v8iSS2 to find out what the actual line of sight is along my alignment. I have merged the designed surface with the terrain surface and use the merged surface in the calculation. No problems in using the tool, but a problem with interpreting the results:

If I punch in a different sight distance, and leave everything else unchanged, the actual sight distance that InR calculates will change.

As I understand it, the sight distance that InR reports in the XML report is the max. distance that the object can be moved away from the eye point while keeping it in sight. This is the distance I am seeking. If this is the definition, this is independent of the typed in sight distance I am testing for, and I do not understand how it can change. Also, I cannot understand how it can be “Unlimited”. How can I see beyond the end of my alignment?

Input with distance = 160:

Output:

Input with only the distance changed:

New results with completely different sight distance.

So the question: Why does the sight distance change (see attachments for input and output)

I really need to find out how far I can see at any given eye position to an object with a given height on the road.
