Under Civil Model, I have three Terrain Models that were imported from .tin files. I need to delete all of these but there is no option to delete them. When I expand the Terrain Model and right click on the "From File: ...." I am only presented with three options: 1 Update Terrain Model from Surface, 2 Detach Source from Terrain Model, and 3 Properties. I have tried multiple times to Detach Source; but it does nothing and I can still see the triangles on the screen. Is there another way to remove these? Please let me know if you need additional information. I am using Power GOPAK V8i (SELECT series 4).
How to delete/remove terrain models imported from .tin.
OpenRoads Connect Edition 2020 Release 3 / ExtractBoundaryStrings problem
Have anyone else experienced the following problem?
For corridor meshes, if we take the Bentley.GeometryNET.PolyfaceHeader and call the following function:
BeGeoNET.CurveVector boundaries = polyface.ExtractBoundaryStrings(out openPaths, out closedPaths);
This was working with Release 2, but not any longer with Release 3. Now in Release 3 the boundaries is empty.
Issue importing XML to terrain model in OpenRoads Designer
I have a drawing from Civil3D, a .dwg, and I have a land xml that was created from that data set by original drawing creators. Also, there was a .dgn created from the same .dwg file, which has some visible contours shown in .dgn. When I view .dgn and then create a terrain model with xml, to verify contours are correct, the terrain model contours and contours displayed in the .dgn, are consistently off horizontally. Seems to be an international foot to US Survey foot difference, since horizontal is off by about 3 ft everywhere. Cannot seem to be able to get the contours to overlap original drawing. Please, help!
See picture: Yellow are the terrain model and white are the dgn contours.
Exporting stream geometry and cross-sections into HEC-RAS
I am attempting to export stream geometry and cross-section data from Openroads into HEC-RAS using the "create HEC-RAS data". I am not able to select the reference line, which in this case is the stream center line. Is there a reason why I am not able to graphically select this line?
[SS10, and looking ahead, ORD] List of elements using a feature definition? Dynamic linking of element templates instead of static application?
From my observations in Geopak SS10 v8.11.09.918, all element template attributes are applied at the time the user sets the feature definition. If there are any changes to the feature definition in the way of revising which element templates are used, or if there are any changes to the same element templates at a later time, those do not affect any element that already exists that has already been set to the impacted feature definition.
I feel that this should be achieved with dynamic linking rather than static application. How does ORD handle this situation?
Anyway, what this tells me is if there is a revision to the element template, we need to go through each element using that feature definition, change the feature definition, and then return it to the feature definition we want to apply. For one, this may be a long list. For another, this list doesn't seem to exist other than by creating it myself. For the matter of creating such a list myself, I can imagine two scenarios:
- This comment on another post may lead to something useful to generating a report, though I feel like writing a VBA script for this is going overboard. The application of such a script, I suppose, would mean doing a selection set of everything in this file (being sure not to select any other files' linework) and running the script which might cycle through feature definitions and list the elements according to the feature definition.
- I could run a horizontal report on all elements in the file, but because I can't do a report on a selection set, that implies I already know where all the lines are and that I am able to select them all (which implies none are hidden behind other linework).
Am I missing a possible shortcut here?
Terrain modeling and dropping elevation of whole model
Hi all,
I was hoping to find a command to drop the elevation of my whole surface .03 hundredths. what happened is that we used a company to fly an area an create a surface an dgn file for us an they used GEOID 12B now im being asked to drop the whole elevation to accommodate for GEOID 18. is there any way to accomplish this?
Corridor design
I have proposed north bound and southbound two centerlines for the single corridor. both control lines has different start and end points. I would like to make single corridor. Can we merge two corridor one for north bound and another for southbound or any other method to create one single corridor for the two different control lines?
When opening a drawing all references and views are gone using Open Roads Designer
when one particular person opens a drawing all references and views disappear. the person has all the same configuration and workspaces files as everyone else along with running the same version of the software. program has been installed and removed multiple times, same issues still happen. Any help would be great!!
Thanks,
Using Linear Geometry with Point Control
I am attempting to control a point in a linear template by using the linear geometry option in point control. I have had problems with seeing the linear geometry that I am looking for in the list of available linear geometries. I have the Control Element file attached as a reference file, but still have problems. Are there any restrictions on the types of geometry that can be used for this purpose? For example, can the linear geometry have any curved portion? Also, can the linear geometry be continuous (such as a closed geometry)?
Thanks,
Chris
Feature Definitions/Symbologies import failure
I am getting an error when trying to import feature symbologies and feature definitions from the excel file that was created using the migration tool from Bentley. See Image below. Can anyone help?
Item Type Expression for returning the Parent Folder of a Feature Definition
Is there an expression that will return the parent folder of the feature definition being used? Or the full path which may also be useful in some situations?
An example where this would be useful is having different categories of signs. You could have multiple features called "Stop Sign" but depending on which folder they are in (Single Lane or Multi-Lane) it will return a different cell size. The expression would allow us to distinguish between two features with the same name when using things like lookup tables.
In the meantime, we can use the Feature Description to help, but that could be useful for other information.
Editing the Terrain Boundary of a LiDAR file processing time
I am trying to edit this terrain file supplied by the surveyor. The LiDAR data provided extends way past the project limits making the file size huge (1.6 GB). The file size is is making my life very difficult in OpenRoads as any dgn with this terrain referenced in takes a while to open. Additionally, when the contours are turned on, OpenRoads runs mind-numbingly slow. To remedy the situation I am trying to shrink the terrain boundary. I drew a new boundary around the terrain and used the Add Feature tool to add the boundary and replace the existing one. The problem is, the program has now been processing for 20+ minutes and I'm pretty sure it's not responding anymore. Does anyone have any ideas for me to fix this? Thanks.
Drainage and Utilities Problem - Some elements were found in the DGN that were not found in the Utility Project and have been removed.
Hello,
A member of my team is trying to load a .dgn in ORD and they are getting the following message:
Drainage and Utilities Problem - Some elements were found in the DGN that were not found in the Utility Project and have been removed.
After selecting OK, the Nodes and Conduits that the user previously modeled are not showing up. Just wondering what is the cause of this.
Thanks,
Jay
Element Template drop down collapse all
When I do a search template in the element template drop down, and then cancel out (select 'x') the search field, the entire element template tree expands. Is there a way to collapse the tree down to the root folders?
Are ORD vertical curve length annotations still incorrect?
The screenshot below shows a vertical curve that was annotated using one of my DOT's default profile annotation settings.
The stationing is correct, but the VC length is wrong. The VC length should be a clean 800.00', but displays as 800.14'.
About a year ago, someone asked a similar question on this board. The reply was that it was a known defect that had been fixed in 10.08.00.88. I am currently using 10.08.01.33.
Here's a shot of the text favorite:
The text favorite is set to US Survey Feet. I confirmed that my design file working units are also set to US Survey Feet.
Is this still a known defect?
OR SS10 - Report or List Features in Dgn Library?
Hello,
Looking to get a list or report of all the civil features in a dgn library.
I tried the suggested method of opening the file in ORD 2020 R3, but the file opens read only.
I did set the config variable for civil importexport, but still get the read only message.
Any other options? I want to inventory all the (few hundred) features in the dgllib and don't want to do this manually.communities.bentley.com/.../ORD_5F00_ElementTemplates.dgnlib

Microsoft .NET Framework Error
Good morning,
I am trying to runt he Import Geometry tool and as soon as I click it, my laptop dock seems like it flickers off/on. Enough to make my screens go black and then it starts making the sounds like thing got unplugged and then plugged back in. Once the screens come back up and I select the .ALG file I wish to import, I get a Microsoft .NET Framework error indicating Illegal characters in path. I have copied the details of the error to the text file attached. I am able to click continue to move along with the import. When I click the feature definition drop-down, I get another error (same illegal characters error). It won't let me select a feature definition here, so I just import without one and seems to import ok. Once it is imported, the alignment does have the feature definition assigned though.
Any ideas on what would be causing the .NET issue?
Thanks,
Ken
I am unable to generate line features by importing raw survey data in Open Roads designer connect
My Survey Data collected from field is according to MX Road standard string name convention (SNC).
For road centreline CC, for edge of pavment EL etc.
While importing survey data to Open Roads Designer by text import wizard the points are coming but the linear features and other topographic are not generating automatically in open roads designer.
Please help me out how to import survey data with some other field codes (which are not as per Open Road feature defination) to Open roads, so that i can generate the existing ground linear features.
ORD 2020 R3 - Removed Substrata by Named Boundaries
Hi,
I can not report removed rock volume by Named Boundaries. I have 3D mesh with Feature Definition - Sock Surface assigned. Volume option for this FD is set to substrata. I generate Cut/fill Volumes - one can only set FD for Cut and Fill there. Substrata Removed will be generated on the same FD as original existing Rock Lithology 3D mesh.
I cannot detach Rock Model form the file where I report volumes - once I did, the Removed Substrata lost its FD an could not be reported. so I need to have my existing eock surface for my full project attached when harvesting quantities.
Then I run report Quantities by Named Boundaries. Looks Removed Substrata is not calculated- only the Existing Rock volume for full project is reported - actually don't need this at all. I need to switch to Volumes report, and then Substrata Removed is reported, but areas and lengths of other elements are not provided with this report.
I wonder if anyone have the same? shall I customize XLS to have this removed substrata in the main report for Quantities By Named Boundaries included?
Thanks,
Adam
How can one cut cross sections in openroads designer and try to load them back into Geopak SS4 Microstation
I started working on a project in Openroads Designer(OD) to pretty much create a profile and see how it would look with a basic template of my typical with my existing terrain, but now wanting to switch back to Power Geopak SS4 to complete the project because OD does not do that great at the little details. I wanting to Cut the cross sections(XS) of the corridor and be able to reference them into microstation where I can copy or compare to the microstation XS. Is there a way to do this.
