I recently switched from Microstation ss3 to Power Geopak ss2 (and ss3). The process to convert las to pod (eventual tin) while reprojecting from UTM to a GCS of my choosing seems to have changed drastically.
My abbreviated method was:
1. Tools>Point Cloud: attach las(or several). The convert las dialog box would automatically appear giving me 3 drop downs. 'Action', 'Options', and Geographic Information'. In the Geo. Info dialog the user could give a Source and a Destination GeoCS.
2. The new pod appears reprojected in the new/correct GeoCS. Export this one pod gives the user 2 drop downs: 'Options' and 'Geographic Information' once again. In the Options drop down, the classification filter can be utilized to utilize the ground shots only. Geo Info is ignored as the reprojection is already done. Clicking ok saves the pod.
3. Tools > Data acquisition. In the smaller of the 2 boxes the user can right click surfaces > create surfaces > Import from Point cloud......and so on. The user can filter the points and export a GEOPAK, DTM, etc. Good workable size tin.
Now's the question(s) - Power GEOPAK SS2 and Power GEOPAK SS3 - step 1 above does not give the user the 'Geographic Information' drop down to do the reprojection. Where did it go? Second question will eventually be, since it is not available in PowerGEOPAK ss3 also, and data acq. is now part of the 'Survey' toolbox, how does a user convert las data to tin/dtm while converting to a defined GeoCS?
I have found a few lengthy work arounds. The best being the create Terrain Model from pod, then exporting to tin from pod in SS#, but I could find no way of filtering the points. The tine is enormous. If the filtering can be utilized this is a fantastic and very simple method. Any suggestions?
I apologize for the long winded explanation, especially as my first contribution to the community.
Thank you for any help.
