Export Lat/Long of elements in a file

I've got some cells, which represent boring locations in my roadway design file with an attached geographical coordinate system.  The borings were placed by Station/Offset.  I would like to find an easy way to pull the Lat/Long of each of these boring locations so that I can transfer them into gINT.  Any recommendations for this?

[IR SS4] Export to DWG - Batch Converter

Hi,

I have a lot of .DGN files and I need to convert all of them to .DWG. I would like to use Batch Converter, but there is one big issue. All my Civil lines cutted in DGN are not cutted in DWG. There is any setting in batch converter to solve this problem?

profile along wall that doesn't follow baseline

I have a weird situation that I'm not sure how to do using Inroads.

I have a retaining wall that is on a curve that I need to show the "developed" elevation view of and display the baseline stationing which is on a different curve center.  I also need to show the proposed ground line at the front face of barrier(gutter) and front face of wall (1.75' offset from gutter).  I have those as two different surfaces.

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to cut the profile at front face of wall and then take the one surface at that point and the other surface offset 1.75'.  The problem is, I need the stationing to be shown along the baseline not the wall itself so 50' won't actually be 50'.

The other option would be to have show the baseline correctly but I'm not sure how you would then show the two surfaces since they aren't a constant offset from the baseline.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is using Inroads Select series 2.

Storm & Sanitary - Pick which face of an inlet a pipe connects to

We use Select Series 2 Storm and Sanitary, sometimes for design and sometimes to generate storm profiles from manually computed structure elevations.  On a recent site design I ran into two instances where the pipe I inserted between two structures seems to pick the wrong face on the upstream inlet for the connection point.  We generally draw our network of structures and pipes and use the graphics to insert the structures in S&S.  This works as a check between what we worked out by hand and S&S and allows us to see if structure sizes and rotations are correct and if we are using the right pipe size. We tell Inroads to show the pipe connection to the inside wall of the inlet and not the center because that is how we have always done our designs manually. Is there a way to force Inroads to connect to the face and not the side of an inlet?

[Geopak SS3] Spotty understanding of 3D and plan elements generated by corridors

$

I'm using Geopak SS3 .722. In the workflow advised by my state's CADD guy, it is advised to create our corridors in a 2D model. Of course in the process a 3D model is created within the file. Not all of the vertices established in the 3D model have a 2D counterpart. Usually, this is a good thing. But there are times when I do want it to show up.

Here's the task immediately before me: I'm trying to establish the profile of the intersection between two parallel proposed corridors.

Here's the way I'm going about it:

  1. Already in the possession of two proposed corridors, I've modified the template for one of the corridors to come from the shoulder edge down the slope to the intersection of the other proposed corridor. This intersection is a point I call "infield ditch".
  2. I updated the template drops as necessary.
  3. Viewing the dynamic cross sections, I observed that the point was found correctly, but it didn't show up in the 2D model as I wanted it to.
  4. Through a series of steps, I see some success.** I do have some of the infield ditch and I can see the profile.

** "Some success" means that for all my success, I was basically rolling my face across the keyboard and somehow got it to work. So I have no more concrete idea of how to see the same success, but I have gotten (part of) the infield ditch to show up in the 2D model.

Here's where it gets trickier. There are gaps in the infield ditch. I learned that I needed to add some external references from the other corridor. I did that.

So the plan element is still incomplete. I look at many of the cross sections in the unexpected skips in the infield ditch plan element. The point itself shows up in each of the dynamic cross sections that I'm expecting to see it in. Also, when I edit that specific cross section it shows up as it should.

So why is it not plotting in 2D correctly? What settings are screwed up? What should I look for?

Stored graphics alignment not matching actual stationing

I am creating an alignment within geopak using "store graphics".  However I've noticed that while the length of my alignment should be approx 6028', it's only coming out to 5980'.  It appears that my curves are being stored shorter than what they actually are.  For instance, my first curve is 60.53', but only storing as 57.80'.

To add to my frustration, plan view labeling is measuring my stationing correctly - i.e. my first curve station is showing at 200+57.80 (57.80' long curve) per the Design and Computation Manager stationing, but in plan view labeler it's showing the correct stationing (based on the length of my first curve - 60.53') as 200+60.53.

Any ideas?  I've never seen it happen before.  I'm thinking it could be a setting in the design file perhaps?  I didn't set up the original file, so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks.

Defining size and depth of utilities in plan that can be picked up on cross sections by using ancillary features

I'm working on placing a massive amount of utility lines in a design file that eventually need to show in multiple places, namely the cross sections.  As of right now, I'm simply creating the lines for the utilities in the design files, then going to the cross sections and trying to get the Draw Ancillary Features tool to place the utility line in the cross section (has been hit or miss if the tool actually sees the utility line), then having to adjust each utility's individual size and depth in the cross section plus add back in any utility lines that the Draw Ancillary Features tool did not pick up.  I feel like there must be a smarter way to do this.  Is there a way to specify to microstation the size and depth of the utilities in the design file, so that when I use the Draw Ancillary Features tool in the cross section, the utilities size and depth are already correct?  Thank you.

Storm & Sanitary Culvert Display Multiple Barrels

It looks to me that when displaying culverts with multiple barrels with Drainage -> View -> Drainage, only a single culvert can be displayed.  It would be very helpful to display the exact number of barrels.  Am I missing how to do this or is it not possible?

I see that using Drainage -> View -> Drainage as Solids does display multiple barrels.  But they don't have any space between them (the ODs touch).  Is there a setting anywhere to provide an offset between them?

[IR Ss2+] What is the purpose of Print Preparation.dgnlib?

I don't know when this showed up in the mix of things, but as I am cleaning up my client workspaces, I wanted to get rid of any text styles, element templates, levels that are in this DGNLIB so that only the prescribed versions of any of these find their way into our files.

The simple fix would be to remove this file from the dgnlib paths, but I don't want to break anything in the process.

[Geopak SS3] Corridor with broken references

$

I recently changed the name of a file that I no longer need as it no longer represents anything of my project. (Fortunately I didn't delete it!) Subsequently I opened one of my still-valid corridor files. When I selected the corridor element I found that all I could do is view the properties. When I closed my valid corridor file and then renamed the one file back to what it had been, the corridor becomes workable again. (It occurs to me that it may have worked if I deleted the no-longer-valid reference attachment, since upon detachment the usual case is that the corridor permanently loses all references to anything that attachment had been contributing, though it is obviously not guaranteed.)

This behavior makes sense, to an extent, but there should be a more ready explanation for why the corridor cannot be manipulated.

And the elements referenced by the corridor which cannot be reached should appear in red. And if those references serve as point controls or anything else, those should show up in red too with an explanation for why it's red.

[Geopak SS3] Point control using Corridor Point/Corridor Feature

$

Using Geopak SS3 .722, I'm attempting to create a point control using features another corridor is creating.

When I get to the point where it begins asking me for the corridor, I see that I have the option to select one corridor that's attached, but not the one I really need. Of course I've tried to click on the corridor's handles too. That doesn't work either.

In the Geopak help, under Civil Tools > Corridor Modeling > Modify > Point Control, there is information that I'm having trouble parsing.

Type - Corridor Point

For all modes, Corridor and Reference Feature combo boxes are displayed. These options allow you to set up the control of one corridor’s points(s) from another corridor’s point(s).

Targeting another corridor's point can not be done simultaneously with Target Aliasing of that same corridor. If Target Aliasing has been defined, the Corridor Point is not available for selection within the Point Control dialog. This produces a recursive situation, making the corridor point control unavailable for selection until that Target Aliasing is removed.

What I'm reading here is that I shouldn't expect to be able to use a corridor point as a point control if I am using that point as a target alias. In a bogus template I am using to test, I have no linear targets--indeed, I have no end conditions whatsoever. So why can I not have my point control target my other corridor?

It may be worth mentioning that if I do get into the target aliasing window with the intent of using an alternative surface, the corridor I want doesn't show up, but another attached corridor does.

To explore further I tried creating a bogus alignment and corridor in the same file as the corridor I want to reference. It works fine in that file. It still doesn't work in the other file where this corridor is attached as a reference.

Hi Forum,

We are in the transition stage from SS2 to open road tech SS4.

We experience Some of the features going to Default even though it is defined in the Xin file, also from where we should change the height and justification of point numbers, elevations.

I can not get Inroads V8i (SS2) to load

I should preface this with I just started working for this company a month ago and no one else at this company uses Bentley products.

I don't get any error or anything my mouse pointer just turns into a circle that spins and spins. Then after a while it says that it is not responding and I have to close out. I get the same results if I open inRoads from my desktop icon or from the Applications drop down menu in Microstation. Microstation runs fine with no problems, only when I try to open inRoads.

It was running fine 3 weeks ago. I haven't used it since then and now I get this. It also won't take a license activation key. There is 6 days left of the trial version. Microstation and Projectwise took the license activation key, but inRoads will not.

I don't get any errors. At the bottom it says MCM unloaded. Not sure what that means or if it is related.

Since I have had this problem, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Microstation V8i (SS2) and InRoads V8.11. This has done nothing to solve my problem.

Adjusting the grade of a line

$

Hi, I'm looking to adjust the grade of a line placed in microstation using the element information. Currently I am adjusting the z coordinate at the start and finish to achieve this but I'm looking to just type in the angle I need and the start elevation and let microstation do the math for me. I assume that the elevation angle tab is what I need to adjust but it is greyed out and I cannot change it. What do I need to change in my settings to activate this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Dynamic Update of Vertical Geometry along side road

I am working on a design which requires me to change the vertical alignment so as to optimize cut and fill and the grading of the whole site.
The site has many roads with many junctions.

Is there a way of fixing an intersection point on the minor road joining the main road so that if i raise(edit) the levels on the main road, the levels on the minor road are dynamically updated? I have used this in Civil 3D. (Dynamically locked PVI).

I have attached a snapshot of the annotated intersection on the profile.
