Working with SUE - Unable to manipulate elements after placing them

Hi,

I am trying convert our 2D background information into a 3D SUE model and then as I receive the daylighting results adjust my model.

I am able to use the extract utilities from graphics tool to generate the original model. From what I have seen in tutorials I should be able to select the conduit or node that I have created and either use the manipulator tools to adjust its location or the manipulators shown at the ends in the view. For some reason I do not have any manipulators in the view and none of my manipulator tools (move, copy, rotate, etc.) have any effect on the element. The only way I can edit it is through the limited options in the element information.

At first I assumed that this must have been a result of the extract from graphic function but I have the same problem even if I place two standard nodes randomly and place a conduit between them. I also thought it might be the result of the feature definitions I created, using the generic feature definition also seems to have no effect.

Please let me know if there is a setting or something that needs to be adjusted to allow for this manipulation and let me know if you have any thoughts on an easier way to do this process.

Thank you

How to save the file in ascii or csv format in openroads

Hi

if I have imported Survey points (csv file in the format pnt no, Northing, easting, elev, code) in Openroads SS4 by Linking Inroads Xin file and I have connected all linear survey features using openroads tools, by default it will saved in the DGN.

If i want to export the  whole project like in SS2 (fwd file) in ascii or csv format how can we do that.

[IRSs2] Working with Civil Geometry - Limitations & Missing Tools

$

We are unable to move to Ss4 due to client deliverables, among other things.

But last week, I needed to use the Roundabout Tools which got me looking at Civil Geometry more closely. In my early attemplts, to use them, I seemed to run into a lot of issues.

  1. I was using the latest Tri-Services Workspace and its XIN. I had enable dynamic annotation to place stationing and alignment annotation automatically.
  2. I enabled design checks to automatically place curves when placing alignments via PI's.
  3. When placing a horizontal alignment in Civil Geometry by PI's, I ran into the following problems
    1. The annotation was minuscule. We are talking microscopic. I had to change my coordinate readout to 8 decimal places for the Element Info/properties dialog box to show the text height and width. It was scaled down, not up, from the XIN/Text Style values.
    2. If I failed to get a tangent between two curves during placement, moving a PI using the manipulators would open a gap in the alignment that the stationing would skip over.
    3. There seemed to be no easy way to insert the line between the curves nor was there an easy way to change a PI with no curve into one with a curve or to remove a curve to have just a PI.
    4. There seems to be no Horizontal Element tools. These are some of the most valuable tools in the InRoads toolbox and must be carried forward into Open Roads.
    5. If I annotated the alignment in InRoads since the Civil Geometry annotation was useless, it did not erase if I further manipulated the alignment as Civil Geometry.

On the plus side, the roundabout tools were great. And there are many of the civil geometry tools I have not touched yet that seem to be very useful.

For a long time InRoads users, I felt like a fish out of water trying to use these tools. And it seems like a different mind set might be needed to use these tools. But when some curve by curve edits are needed in the middle of an alignment, these tools seem primitive compared to the Horizontal Element tools.

Modeling A Gore GEOPAK SS3 (08.11.09.722)

I have two models, one for my ramp and the other for mainline. What Is the best way to model the gore between the two? Are there any videos or documentation somewhere out there. I can only find info on the SS2 gore tool.

Stormwater and sanitary sewer networks in SS3

We are looking at trying to use more tools within Geopak, specifically the Stormwater and Sanitary sewer (S&SS) tools. If we use Geopak SS3 OpenRoad tools for our roadway layout, design, and modeling, are we able use that directly with the S&SS tools? Are the S&SS tools still located in the GEOPAK menu under "WATER SEWER", or were new tools developed in conjunction with the OpenRoad tools?

What is the best online resource for learning about these S&SS tools? When I go to the menu GEOPAK>WATER SEWER>Help, a lot of the links are broken.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Shoulder Subbase Variable Thickness

I have a simple question...I think. I have an overlay template in which I have leveling. My shoulder subbase thickness is 6" but in the areas where I have leveling I am not meeting the 6" requirement. The image below shows what the template looks like when there is no leveling, which shows the 6" depth correctly.

The next image shows where we have leveling but my shoulder subbase is still at 6" (below HMA top course) but I need it to be 6" below my leveling which would make the shoulder subbase depth greater than 6". What kind of constraint or display rule will give me a constant 6" depth below the lowest component displayed? POWER GEOPAK 08.11.09.722.

SUE - Extracting Utilities from Graphics

Using the Inroads Suite SS4

I have my surface loaded and showing the contours and triangles

When I use the Extract Utilities from graphics command, the system asks if I want to use 3D element elevations. When I answer NO, it then asks me to select a surface but won't allow me to choose the surface I have currently loaded.

Fairly new to this  .. what am I missing

Thanks in advance

Chris

Open Roads SS4 feature connections thru link code and point list

What is the difference between the feature generated by point list and feature generated by link code in openroads SS4. when I connected the featured by point list I have duplicate lines  appearing.  from the feature generated by link code. How should be the workflow in Open roads  to connect the features. Do we have to delete the features manually?

Corridor Components

Is there a way to take SS4 corridor components (i.e. pavement layers, curb, sidewalk) and import them into a .dtm?  Similar to how the "old" roadway modeler would drop components from a corridor into the surface.  So far all I've been able to import is the top mesh, but not all the components associated with the corridor.  Thanks.

GEOPAK Contours not displaying at even/whole elevations

I have used Geopak for about 5 years, recently I've had a problem when I generate contours from DTM/DEM points and breaklines. The contour lines generated are not an even value. (eg: 500' contour reads 499.999). Has anyone experienced similar problems and do you have any answer?

First , thank you for all your help it's really appreciated. Today I have another question ! When creating a 750mm High Pressure gas line the system adds some end caps, can you please tell me where I can control this. I would really like the ability to turn them off as the line is made up of some heavy wall steel that is welded at the seems.

Many Thanks

Chord Definition in OpenRoads

Under settings/design file/Civil Formatting I changed the radius settings to Chord.  My question is how to layout curves by typing in a degree rather than a radius?  Also, is there a way to display DOC rather than Radius when you select an alignment?

Learn Server On-Demand Training

Greetings...this is my first question in this community and I hope I'm generally in the right place.

I'm a long time ACAD/Carlson and ACAD/C3D user. I've been a surveyor for about 40 years and have a decent grasp on the processes and end products that I will provide. The approach is to scour the Learn Server and get as much as I can from that source.

I have an issue with the Learn Server in that I can access most of the training but can not access the 'hands on' training. The hands on training spawns a new occurrence of the web browser which freezes. There is a statement to update Adobe Flash and I get a Java error that 'lms.bentley.com' is using a version of Java that is not compatable or older than the Java version on the machine.

I keep a current Adobe Pro license so Adobe Flash should be OK, but I manually updated that anyway. I'm not sure about the Java part, or maybe I'm missing the real problem all together. I contacted Bentley and they sent me the IE security settings and I went through that. The only thing about the internet/tools/security - downloads category is that Bentley calls for 'Automated prompting for the file downloads' to be set to enabled, but I don't have that option showing in the configuration.

Any suggestions would be appreciated......dan galbraith

Annotate alignments at set intervales

Hi, Im using SS4 power civil and would like to create a layout that shows setting out points on 3D alignments at 5 m intervals (XYZ).

This seems easy and I can resort to a manual method i.e. placing points on the alignment and exporting the selection. I was wondering if there is a quicker way by selecting the alignment setting the interval and automatically doping a cell on the alignments and exacting the XYZ data to table form.

thanks

Cut/Fill Report from Isopach Surface

Hello,

I am using Power InRoads SS2. For one of my project I need to show the final cut and fill quantities between proposed and existing surfaces. Initially, I am given ex. surface area about 100 sq meters. The proposed surface will be created from scratch based on the hand drawn sketch which will have few points with proposed coordinates and elevations. At the end, I’ll have to produce a quantity report of cut and fill.

I’ve tried to use isopach surface to resolve this issue however I could not find a solution. Isopach surface either displays grid or contours  elev. differences between prop. and ex. surfaces. Is there a way to generate report of cut and fill quantities for specific area.

Thanks.

Artem
