Draw a Line Between Points, using Civil Accudraw to lock ends with station and offset values.

Select the line and I see the constraints in manipulators but not in properties.

[OR Ss4] Creating a Corridor Boundary - Extract Mesh Boundary Creates Circular Dependency - Alternative Method Found

$

OK, I tried something I saw on Envision CAD's Tips. I want to create a Corridor Boundary. The tip said to display the top mesh and use the Extract Mesh Boundary tool. But it complains that this would create a Circular Dependency.

The Element Information on the boundary graphic says it is a Linesting - there are no linkages or "Depends On" or anything else I can see that links this back to the terrain mesh.

It even retained the restriction after I tried using the clipboard to get a new copy.

However, I just discovered that a very small Max. Triangle Length behaves much differently than it did in InRoads. I set my length to 0.1 and the resulting terrain outline follows the extracted mesh boundary so closely that I have not found any location where they are different. If you set too small a value in InRoads, holes would begin opening up within the terrain. This now methodology is clearly preferred.

As I understand it, in ORD, corridors get an automatic terrain element, similar to how a Survey gets a terrain element, so this issue is probably not worth worrying about.

I hope others find this tidbit about Max. Triangle length helpful.

Basic Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) questions

Hi Forum,

I'm new to SUE and had viewed a series of Bentley learning videos for the program.

My goal is to design some cable ducts to connect the pre-placed cable wells. I've attached a cell-library (incl. Plan, Top and Bottom parts) of the well, a dgnlib and a working file (with the feature-definition and element-templates).

- My first problem seems that the ducts don't connect the well in height, but about 1,3 m below the middle of the well. The wells seemed being placed correctly with the top aligned to the existing terrain (see the illustration below). I tried to adjust the min. cover, but it didn't help. What is the proper way to adjust the "inlet" and "outlet" elevation?

- When place a conduit, I managed to use "Ctrl" key to make a bend, but I couldn't make a curve (by "Alt"). What is the step-by-step procedure to make a curve? when define a conduit, I can enter a min. bending radius, how to use this info in design?

- to extend the question above, is there a way to make a bend or a curve of the conduit in the verticle plan?

- Which function in SUE gives me a quick overview of already laid out components (nodes and conduits etc.)?

Thank you very much and all inputs are welcome!

Power InRoads v8i SS4 (08.11.09.878)

Windows 10 Enterprise Ver 1703, OS Build 15063.332, 8gb ram

I'm just getting into using the OpenRoads technology. I am working through the videos on the Learn Server. I am trying to use Civil Accudraw, but when I click on Activate Civil Accudraw nothing seems to happen. If I go to <Tools <Civil Accudraw <Civil AccuDraw Settings and check on Always Show AccuDraw Compass and Show AccuDraw Dialog I see these items on the screen. I am not able to see the Toolbar itself.

I do have a customized workspace so is there some variable I need to point to a certain file for this to display?

Hi,

Today I've installed the latest version or OpenRoads Navigator but I'm getting errors when opening an imodel.dgn.

Try to export from:

PowerCivil 08.11.09.845

PowerRailtrack 08.11.09.845

OpenRoads Designer: 10.00.00.120

MicroStation CE: 10.05.00.40

But none of them I can open with OpenRoads Navigator "Unable to open file"

Anny Ideas?

PowerInroads SS4, how to project a corridor feature into a profile

$

Hi a common workflow I have with Inroads ss2 is that when creating a new road once I have my horizontal and vertical alignement, I have a template that do minimum ditch depth (target surface, go 0.5m down with a slope, 1m wide then up with a slope), I then generate a surface of the corridor and use the native fonction update profile/ projected feature to display the ditch in my profile to serve as a base for my vertical ditch profile.

The thing is I can't find a way to do this in SS4, I know how to display the crossing surfaces using the quick profile tool.  Iknow how to make a terrain model with the corridor using element or subsurface but again I'm stuck after this step.

geotechnical cell pattern line weight

Hello,

I am using Power Geopak V8i SS2.

I customized some cell patterns but had to change the line weight in one of them.  The patterns work nicely except one of the patterns is not changing to the proper line weight.  I have tracked-down all the cell files that would likely be contributing this thicker line weight but the line weight keeps returning when I use it in a geotechnical boring in profile.  How can I know where the line weight control is coming from when using these cell patterns?

geopak-alignment length

Hello,

I am using Power Geopak V8i SS2.

I made an alignment and profile initially that worked well.  Then I mad a change to the alignment by moving tow vertex points and deleting some others.  This change had the affect of shortening my alignment overall.  To ensure the profile was still in agreement with the alignment, I re-built the profile cell and re-defined the ground profile linework based on linework, not surface.  However, when I go to build a geotechnical project by adding to borings and sampling in profile, I get the below message when I select my profile cell to set the borings in profile.  The geotechnical project will work if I select the profile max station to be 2392+14.54 when I select the profile cell to set the profile to receive my borings.  However, I have to ask, why does the profile not read the correct length of the alignment ?

Clearance Report With Full Description instead of code

I am working in the clearance report. I have questions below:

1. How can I get the full description to display in the report instead of just the code.

When I look at the raw xml, I can see that Description is available for use.

But <xsl:value-of select="offsetPoint/@description"/> is bringing me just the code and not the full description.

2. Is there a way I can automatically get the value of just the beginning station and ending station to put in at the top along with the Project, Description at the top?

3. I want to add few more items at the top along with Project,Description,FileName. Is there a way I can submit them as user input parameter and then they are displayed in the report viewer?

Any direction or guideline to achieve the above three is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Ugrade to OpenRoads Designer CONNECT leads to Obsolete Civil Data

We've recently upgraded from GEOPAK SelectSeries 4 to OpenRoads Designer CONNECT.  When opening models that were started with SS4, I get an error saying the file contains obsolete civil data, and I can either close the file altogether or open as read-only.

Am I stuck recreating all of my work?

Thanks,

[OR CR] Option to Select a Different Cross Section Spacing and Manual Offsets for any Dynamic Cross Section View

$

Depending upon how you open a Dynamic Cross Section view, many of the parameters are automatic or defined at the start of the command.

A nice enhancement would be the ability to set a specific spacing once the View is setup. Sometimes, its nice to walk up the alignments using a wide fixed spacing, but then step through specific areas a a tighter spacing. An extra drop down menu on the view toolbox with Spacing Options like the following:

  • Corridor/Command Default (this would use the corridor template drop locations or the spacing specified from the command launch)
  • 1 (unit)
  • 5
  • 10
  • 20
  • 50
  • Custom

And when the Open Cross Section View tool is used with an alignment, you have to specify the left and right offsets. It would be nice if we could revise these on a cross section view as sometimes, while using an alignment, the offset between the alignment and the area of interest changes substantially along the review area. Being able to redefine those offsets would save a number of mouse clicks.

When using this method, the cross section model only displays the width specified at the beginning of the command. So if you zoom out or pan beyond those initial offsets, nothing is drawn in those areas.

Within the Windowing options under the View Properties, the Fit solution option does not apply when using an alignment and if the offsets vary a lot, the Center on Current Offsets option often requires a lot of zooming and panning to keep your areas of interest in view.

[OR Ss4] What controls the Display of Current Cross Section Station in a Profile View

$

While working  with Dynamic Cross Sections and a matching Profile View, I cannot zoom in on the profile while keeping the cross section station line displayed. I am trying to fine tune a tie in to existing ground and need to look closely at the profile as I move from station to station. But once you zoom in to a certain zoom factor, the line turns off.

Is there any way to prevent this from occurring?

Plotting Cross Sections

I am using SS4, 08.11.09.878

I have been able to plot cross sections from my model and terrain correctly previously.  Today I tried it, and everything is on layer "default" and I do not get my pavement/aggregate structure.  I went back to my model file, and everything is on Default" there too.  I have NOT made any changes to the model since the last time I looked at the model or cut the cross sections.  Apparently I have a setting that is off ... thoughts?  It almost looks like level overrides is on, but it is not.  If I was in SS2, I would say that it looks like my .tin plotted instead of my .dtm.

On another note.  I am able to plot pipes perpendicular to the roadway by using "solid by extrusion along".  The parallel pipes are not plotting.  Thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

Openroads LAS import

I'm using openroads designer V10.  When importing a .LAS lidar using the command terrain:from file which opens up the "Import Terrain Model(s)" box it doesn't import only the selected features.  This particular .las is broken up into Ground, Unclassified, Low Point and a few others.  I select the one I want to import (Ground) and it still imports everything else.  Any thoughts?

[MX SS4 linemode] Interface problem

$

Hello,

I've encountered a problem while writing input for ditch (multistrata) analysed by sections.

General setting-up for ditch is a dependence of height difference between shoulder (ES10) and ditch bottom (section N)
There are three sections: "T" - terrain, "N" - ditch bottom, "W" - auxiliary section representing ditch bottom levelled up by 0.3 [m]

When level difference of section N and shoulder is less then 2.0 [m] (cut/low fill) goes record 261 else goes record 262 (fill).

The problem is when in cut the ditch bottom is lower then 2.0 [m] from shoulder (need of place a culvert).
There should go record 262 because the level difference between ES10 and section N is more then 2.0 [m] high (1.7 from ES10 and auxiliary section W)
But there goes record 261 from second line (first IGN) and the rest of 261. Why is it so and how to write it correct (I could share models)?

File much larger from SS2 to SS4

I have a .dgn that is approximately 10 MB when it was created in SS2.  When opened in SS4, however, the file size jumps up to 17 MB.  It does not recognize the CLIP boundary I created for the exterior limits of the drawing, and I have yet to manipulate it; but I doubt that it would make such a significant difference.  I tried compressing my files, and that didn't work.  Any thoughts/ideas as to what is going on?  Thanks.

Annotating superelevation on profile using MXTips

$

I am finding it difficult to annotate superelevation on a profile about 70 kilometers long using MXTip file. Whenever I add associated strings to the profile the software just doesn't respond. When i finally get the associated  strings to show on the profile, superelevation doesn't get annotated in the profile boxes.

Is there a way i can do this without using linemode?

Openroads Navigator and Resolution Server

Having trouble with resolution server. I have created a project in resolution server, I have assigned users, created a custom civil form, and opened said project in Openroads Navigator before opening my imodel. But when I choose an element and attempt to add a comment by clicking on the plus nothing happens. I have had this work before with testing with Bentley staff but this is the first project I have created. Not sure what the issue is.

Hello, I want to have a slope from one corridor to seek the back of curb in another corridor. What's the best way to do this? The image below shows what I want to accomplish. Each template is in a separate corridor and I want to connect the two with the hand drawn red line (much straighter, of course) instead of having a mound which is what is shown now.

Topographic Profile View of Piping Using InRoads

$

I have been using Microstation for about 18 months.  I installed InRoads 3 days ago for the purpose of making topographic profile views of underground piping plans at several of our rail yards and am in the process of self-educating. I have gotten through point and breakline extraction, triangulating and contours but am absolutely hung up on creating horizontal and vertical alignments.  Aside from that even, the alignments seem to be curve oriented where as I have a pipe route with 45 and 90 degree angles.  I have learned everything thus far by researching on the web, but cannot find anything tailored specifically to what I am trying to accomplish in regards to the alignments.  I do not expect this to be explained in the forum, but would like to maybe get pointed in the right direction as far as an education resource.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA
