[OR Ss4] Is There an Actual Gap Between Template Drops When a Previous Drop's End Station Equals the Following Start Station?

$

I am using Parametric Constraints with my Templates and at a few locations, there is a specific change in my template, like a sidewalk ends. I am using the parametric constraints to widen the grading behind the curb for the template without the sidewalk so the hinge point behind the sidewalk continues at the same offset and elevation. As part of the parametric constraints, I gradually reduce the width to the normal, no sidewalk grading width.

I am also very OCD when it comes to point and label naming, so points continue across template drops and also so do Parametric Constraint Labels.

Occasionally, the constrain value spills over across the template drop and when I try to add constraints to eliminate this, I need to know what is the best approach for no-transition template drops and station values - should there be a minimum gap? No Gap?

For example on two constraints today , I had to add 0.001 to two start stations for two Parametric constraints so the initial station did not show the constraint being applied to the prior template drop.

Wildcards for ORD Annotation Filters?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if wildcards are possible in the ORD Annotation Filter for properties like Feature definition, Feature name, etc? It seems that each feature name or definition needs to be explicitly defined and not even feature definition groups, although selectable, are applied to the filter. I also have the same query for the Point list (to be filtered).

Looking at the operators, the star symbol is used as a multiplication operator.

Hi

I have just added a point control for my right EOP and this is the resolut:

It looks like the cut and Fill are connecting to some fiktiv point. How do i correct this?

I hope you can help me :)

3 type cross section in one template

I have used this template in SS2 but I couldn't have used this in ORD. How is working this template, let I try to explain to you.
all components close in template and there are 3 rules for each type. I am using point control at SS2. I'm define point control at corridor model in SS2. for example, I'm creating alignment "A" and create point control with horizontal "A_AC_KAPA_NOKTASI" in this case, type A becomes visibile.

BUT I couldn't have done in ORD, because I can't choose point name, because all points is not visible.

Also ORD is not complete, it does not work consistently and so slow. our company paid licence's money but I think it does not deserve.

What to do with a corrupt alignment?

I have a drawing with all alignments in one drawing. There is one alignment that cannot be accessed, deleted, or touched in any way. I have multiple corridors that reference the various alignments. If I replace the drawing by copying the good alignments to a new drawing and then renaming it to the old drawing name, it loses all of the references.

Any suggestions?(Please visit the site to view this file)

MX Roads roundabout design

$

Hi all

I have been tasked with designing 2 roundabouts and link road into an existing highway network, I haven't designed a roundabout before within MX, looked on line for some guidance, of which a lot revolves around the use of the roundabout tool, which we do not appear to have, we are running MXROAD V8i (SELECT series 4). Any ideas how the roundabout tool can be loaded in, I have found a few discussions that refer to how to load in tools but these appear to have been archived as I am unable to follow the links.

Having not been able to find the roundabout tool, I have followed the Stockdale method and created a roundabout crown, with entry and exit crown lines, set a chainage on these crown lines in relation to the roundabout crown, for example roundabout crown CH20 at same point on entry crown I have changed the chainage datum to CH120, all entry/exit crown lines have been associated to the roundabout crown and taken into vertical design, but at this point I am stuck, should the entry/exit crown lines be designed in vertical first then associated and vertical design carried out on the roundabout crown? Have I done something incorrect up to this stage?

Any help appreciated as we do not generally get these kind of schemes to design and I'm heading into this blind.

Thanks

Dave

IR-SS4 : Where is the Add PI tool? How do I delete a vertex?

$

How can I edit this, or do I have to drop it to dumb geometry?

I have limits of construction, tie down limits. They are preliminary (in no way a finished project). Generated by the software. My drawing is 2D, but this is an "Additional 3D Linear Element".

I need to make the hand-edits to make this look the way we want it to. I can't use the Modify Element, Insert  or Delete Vertex, or Partial Delete. I keep getting a message that "Cannot Transform This Element Because It Has A Rule". I can grab the "handles" and pull it around, but that doesn't help me for thinning/eliminating vertices or breaking the line if necessary. I was looking in the InRoads Tasks, but I don't see and Add/Delete PI tools.

Do I just have to drop this to dumb (non-design) geometry? How would I do that (is it the normal Drop Complex, or is there some other procedure I need to know about)?

Thank you.

Excluding earthwork through specific template drops

$

Hi,

Is there a way to exclude the calculation of earthwork quantities through one specific template drop on a corridor? We have a roadway with a bridge and are trying to calc earthwork along the road using the Corridors --> Component Quantities tool, but the earthwork is calculating fill underneath the bridge, which we don't need. What is the best way to find the earthwork in this situation? Can we select each template and calc earthwork, or lock the bridge template drop? Or is this issue related to the template itself? We are just in the concept stage, so we aren't running cross sections at this time and cannot use End Area Volumes to find earthwork.

Thanks, any advice is appreciated.

Where are the Survey Tools in OpenRoads Connect Edition?

So Where is it?  We are being charged for it but our Surveyors have been left behind.  I can't believe Bentley released this garbage.  Completely different program that doesn't do as much as what it is replacing and yet Bentley forces you to pay for it in both fee and function.

Geopak SS4 vba label macro fail

We are having issues implementing the vba labeling macros using  Power GEOPAK v8.11.9.832. These macros worked up until a few weeks ago. Our IT department has been rolling out Office365. Is there any known conflicts with Office365 and SS4? Also just installed Bentley Map 08.11.09.805. Any known issues between these two?

Currently there are no errors or messages I can post. I have sent my dgn to other surveyors using same version of GeoPak. The labeler works on their machine. No other variables changed.

Any ideas?

[OR Ss4] Better Control Needed for How Open Roads Deals with Overlapping Features on Corridors with Tight Curves

$

This is not the first post on this topic. It is not even my first post on this topic.

I am working on a site design containing two separate parking areas. on is a long cul-de-sac layout with a slight dogleg. The other us a loop that is shaped somewhat like an Erlenmeyer flask. Both of these have 90 degree parking bays along their lengths, some of which angle in such a way that no point control used as a secondary alignment could be used to model just the design from Curb to Curb. So I had to models the pavement with sufficient width that I could use it to generate a profile for my curbs, to then run corridors along the resulting alignment with profile.

  • There is a distinct need for the software to have settings for dealing with 90 degree curbs representing a curb. Currently, it is necessary to add Key Stations to get the curb to form at the point just before and just after the 90 degree bend. But even then, the result is a chamfer like back of curb. A setting that would specify for the parallel segment lines to be continued to a virtual intersection would be a great addition. I do recall seeing a video (mrbuilds, I believe) where he used a Civil Cell but there was no detail explanation as to how one would replicate this application.
  • Even trying to live with the chamfer curb bends, any behind the curb grading frequently forms fan like formations as the segments extend to some type of point control. What happens in general is that the initial tie ins to the point control, when the corridor is roughly parallel, work as intended. But as a later template bends around a corner, its point control ends up going backwards along the point control and passes over its length a second time and eventually as another bend is encountered, follows along the control a third time. The software discards all but the last pass. The resulting fan shaped mesh has all sorts of wave like bumps along its length.

My Curb corridor proceeds from left to right in this picture, consisting of the curb, a graded area and a wall. There is a Secondary Alignment, Point Control at the face of the wall and the wall height is targeting the corridor pavement on the upper level. The grading sets the grade of the base of the wall. The original tie in points made it all the way to the PC of the foreground curb, but as the sections bend around the curb, the grading point swings back towards the point of the fan shaped component mesh. It stops its backward solution only because the wall is offset and parallel to the initial curb, so it fails to find another solution until the first template drop past the PT of the foreground curb. Even if I assign a profile to the base of the wall, it still forms the fan and the curb elevations to the back of the fan inevitably result in a washboard effect.

If there was a way to toggle on a Keep First Solution setting, the last solution would occur somewhere at or slightly past the foreground curb PC. Then, the next solution would be after the 90 degree chamfer at the 90 degree outside bend. The fan would move to the second half of the foreground curb. At this point, I realize there will still be a fan and it might still create the washboard effect, but I would have the option of at the very least, selecting the lesser of two evils.

Sometimes. I use a parametric constraint to reduce the grading width so they all meet at a point and then use the Point Control with a n Elevation and Grade (of 0.0%) Vertical Point Control to bring those points to a common elevation - one that I decide. But this would require many additional Template drops or a "frankentemplate" to hide and display various solution situations.

[All] End Condition Target: Elevation - How does one use this?

I'm trying to grade a pond adjacent to a road. The drainage guys gave me the pond bottom elevation and I have a 3D Hinge Point. I wanted to simple run a Linear Template along the hinge to locate the bottom along that area. I say that End Conditions have a Target Elevation mode. Once Selected, there is no location to identify the elevation to target. I tried creating the linear template, assuming it would ask for the elevation during placement, but no prompt appeared.

So now I have a linear template created, but its not displaying anything.

The Help file is no help.

Intersection Modeling - Creating terrain from element

I have a project in which I'm doing 2 approach widenings at an intersection and therefore created 2 surface terrains.  Both created surface terrains are along the same centerline/profile.

The 2 terrains are created fine by boundary but when I go to add the centerline as a breakline, it works fine on one (south one) but doesn't on the other (north one).

Are there any issue that would prevent this from working correctly or is it likely there's some bust on the terrain that's causing this?

OpenRoads Designer Bugs for the Point Control tool

$

Firstly, when the Corridor Objects tool is open, and click the Point Control tab, this program will not get responded immediately, then Microsoft .Net Framework error appears. See the following pictures, specially this error will always show after clicking the Point Control tab.

************** 异常文本 **************
System.NullReferenceException: 未将对象引用设置到对象的实例。
程序集版本:1.0.0.0
Win32 版本:09.10.02.30
基本代码:file:///C:/Program%20Files/Bentley/OpenRoads%20Designer%20CONNECT%20Edition/OpenRoadsDesigner/Assemblies/ECFramework/Bentley.Platform.DLL
… … … … ..

Secondly, when using the Point Control tool to connect line 2 with line 1, the Triangulation error of Point Control area is fond, see the following picture. The curved surface is weird, and the template line is not perpendicular to its base line.

But with Power Inroads, it is perfectly right, nothing wrong with Triangulation of Point Control area, and template line is perpendicular to its base line.

So, hope you develop team can test the above bugs and kill them ASAP,and PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR CLIENT WAIT TOO LONG, SPECIFICALLY IN CHINA.

I have been using ORD since 2 months ago, but many bugs make ORD too difficult to use.

AS you may know, there are so many bugs, even some are fatal, I wonder whether you company start to kill this bugs, and wonder when the next version will be issued.

[OR] Target Alias using a Corridor - Can it target the Vertical Face of a Component?

$

On my current project, we have segments of my corridors where I am modelling a Wall. The component is intended to be a simplified depiction of a wall to represent is grading at the top and base and its thickness, but the actual design will be modeled by others. I have set my components to be excluded from both the top and bottom meshes, so I only get the grading up to the face of the wall.

So in one area, I need to grade a pond and wondered, if I could target the corridor adjacent to the pond? And if I did, would it find the solution where its slope intersects the vertical face of the wall?
