RE: Define Horizontal Alignment From Existing Elements

Thanks. The alg name I started with is MPWB. It keeps bumping it up one – MPWC, MPWD, etc. it’s up to MPWF now since I have had a few stabs at it. I did get the lines/arcs ungrouped then turned into a complex chain (this thing is just testing me I swear, cause the chain wouldn’t work with them grouped, and I almost smashed my display before I thought of ungrouping the elements lol).

I’ll figure out why it is autonaming stuff. I could let it go with MPWF then rename it in the Geometry Explorer, but I’d rather know what it is doing.

I appreciate your time.

Yes,  you need a line with arcs, etc.  You will select it, and then run through the command.

I am not sure why it wont let you change it.... Sorry, but I can't help you with that.

The Roadway Design can only utilize DTM files, so the Corridor Modeling tool will either directly import a DTM or convert the selected TIN to DTM for use by the command.

GEOPAK-ACTIVE SURFACE FORMAT

Hello,

I am new to Geopak V8i SS2 and learning the corridor tools.

I have imported a surface to be the active surface, initially as a *.dtm surface file.  After learning how to convert it to a *.tin file, I wanted to use the *.tin surface file as my active surface file.  However, Geopak is only recognizing the *.dtm file even though I have imported the new *.tin file.  The attached image shows the two file formats.  Why would Geopak show the *.dtm surface file format even though I have updated it to be *.tin format?

Can you post the DGN to see if we can reproduce?

When I create a new alignment, selecting the elements before I invoke the import command, nothing happens. The message center says Successful Completion, but the alignment has no definition – it is empty, as it appears in the Explorer and as I am told by an error message when I go to set the initial stationing in the geometry curves menu. I tried hitting Apply with nothing selected and it prompts me to select, then accept the elements, then (according to Help) reject to return to the dialog I am doing: (left click (select) left click (accept) right click (reject/return). I get back to the dialog and Apply. Nothing. I keep creating empty alignments. Sigh.

See attached (replying via email, I hope the files make it) for how I have switches set in the Import Geometry dialog, and for the file itself. MPWB is the northerly (MineralPointWestBound) of the two east-west lines.

Ok, it may have had something to do with the geometry project – Modified Jug. I had copied that from a different folder since it had several other lines defined in it that I wanted. Maybe it was read only. I started a new session and added a new alignment solely by using the import geometry command (not first creating the new line) and it worked fine. Thank you so much for your help.

Define Horizontal Alignment From Existing Elements

I am new to Microstation and Inroads as of a month ago. I am an expert in AutoCRUD and Land Desktop-->Civil 3D so I (supposedly) know my way around CAD.

I have a file given to me containing an alignment, including stationing. I do not have an XML file with alignment definitions.

I want to convert the elements into an alignment. Should be simple right? 2 or 3 steps maximum like it would be in the aforemntioned satanic software package. I mean, really simple. Select the elements, define beginning station value and push the button. Presto!

I cannot figure it out. I have documentation by others and Help and have been spinning my wheels all day long.

I have a geometry project with other alignments in it. I managed to create the new aligmnment, but by name only - it is empty. I tried File>Import Geometry and the message board, at least once it did, said something about success.

The alignment remains empty. I seriously do NOT want to trace over the top of the existing elements - this is stupid. They already exist, why should I do it over?

Any advice?

Thanks. Sorry if my frustration is peeking out from beneath my words.

David

When attempting:

Right click on corridor in project explorer, corridor creation tools, corridor objects

I receive an unhandled exception, hit continue and receive system fault 20301.  (Error messages attached)

Does anyone have a fix or work around for this?

Hello,

Can there be more than one active surface defined in the corridor modeling dialog?

You will need to draw your roadway surface in using the DTM file instead of the TIN.  The components and features are contained in the DTM.  Then TIN just has the top surface.

Hello,

I am new to Geopak V8i SS2 and learning the corridor tools.

I have used the Draw Cross Sections from Surface button in the Corridor Modeling dialog.  I see the surfaces in section and section cells display properly but I do not see the roadway template details in the sections, such as the different roadway layers, retaining wall, etc.  All my levels are on.  Why do I not see all the roadway components in section?

POWER GEOPAK VERSUS GEOPAK

Hello,

I am new to Geopak V8i SS2.

I have to make a decision about purchasing PowerGeopak V8i SS2 versus Geopak V8i SS2.  I am doing work for a local DOT that is standardized on Geopak V8i SS2 and have their workspaces configured for Geopak V8i SS2.  I understand that PowerGeopak V8i SS2 is the same program but with Microstation functionality built-in.  My company would prefer to purchase PowerGeopak due to the small cost savings of not needing to purchase Microstation separately.  My concern is that there may be some component in the Geotechnical tools or Roadway tools that is not quite the same or is not present in PowerGeopak V8i SS2.  We will need to work with the Geotechnical tools/import projects from gINT and Roadway design tools with the software.  Can someone confirm that PowerGeopak V8i SS2 is not lacking any of the functionality in the areas of Geotechnical and Roadway design that is present in Geopak V8i SS2?

GEOPAK ROAD - DIVIDED RECONSTRUCTION CROSS SECTIONS

Good afternoon,

I have been using GEOPAK for several years but now have been assigned to develop very detailed and technical interstate cross sections.

The template is a divided reconstruction independent design.  I have all the plan, profiles, and shapes established.  There is one-lane widening (on both sides) to the median starting at the edge of existing pavement.  There are numerous slope / barrier treatments.  Is there some sort of screen-sharing operation with an expert who can walk me through how to assign tie / PGL, median connections, using template seperators, differentiate between widening vs. resurfacing, etc?  There are too many variables to type.

Thank you

I just updated to this version and I am having the same issue. Has there been any resolution?

I have also noticed the "Remove Interval" function has been removed. When selecting an element, there used to be a function in the pop-up window that would allow intervals to be removed from an element.

It is still there- you can get to the tool in Element Info by going to that intervals parent element and rt-clicking on it. However, lets all be sure to tell them we want it back on the interval element itself
